Response to Every You, Me Every by David Levithan

 

    Throughout this book Every You, Me Every by David Levithan the main character Evan receives many pictures and letters from an anonymous person. He is very worried and feels betrayed by someone and he doesn’t know who it is. He pushes everyone out of his life and can’t trust anyone. He feels very threatened and has no one to help him. When reading this book the authors shows that sometimes in hard situations people think it's best to isolate themselves from everyone but instead it is better to open up and communicate with others so they can help you in difficult times.

    Evan feels voiceless and powerless through this time of confusion and he has no one to support him. In this book it states, “There were so many people around me. I stood there on the side of the hallway and watched everyone pass...I was starting to get lost in my own infinities..” When Evan says this he is standing in the school hallway wondering who out of everyone he thought he knew or was just a normal person who didn’t cared about him was sending him these messages of such personal things. This quote shows that Evan feels like he doesn't belong and that he is powerless because someone is sending him messages. Evan hasn't told anyone about this and he is trying to isolate himself from everyone away because he thinks that they could betraying him or the ones who are doing it. He wouldn’t let anyone help him which makes him feel very lonely. Overall, Evan doesn’t have an identity throughout the book when makes him feel lost and confused.

    Evan is very lost and voiceless throughout the book. This is shown in the book when he says, “I’m so far away that i’m inside myself. I barely notice colors unless I taste them.” This quote reveals that Evan feels shallow and empty inside. Nobody really believes he feel this way because he hasn’t told anyone and tries to push away his feelings in school. The pictures and messages he is receiving makes him feel very threatened because he doesn’t know who is sending them. This feeling of not knowing who is sending them makes Evan feel lost, confused and feeling that he doesn’t belong. If Evan had someone to talk to maybe he wouldn't feel this way and instead he would feel that whatever happens he knows he has people that care about him and would fight for him, but in this case he doesn’t and if something happens then he is all alone and has to deal with everything himself. Overall, when reading Every You, Me Every the main character Evan was very lost and voiceless.

     In conclusion, the authors shows that sometimes in hard situations people think it is best to isolate themselves from everyone but instead it is better to communicate with others so they can help you in difficult times. The main character Evan is struggling to stay strong in this situation and won't let anyone help him because he can't trust anyone. This makes him feel voiceless, powerless, making him feel like he doesn't belong and betrayed. This connects to the world because after reading Every You, Me Every you understand that isolating yourself from everyone can sometimes make the situation even worse. Not having anyone to help and support you can make you feel alone and abandoned. Having someone to support you and be on your side can make you hopeful and feeling that you belong.
